MATERIALS USED IN OUR MOSQUITO NETS

Bed mosquito nets can be made of various materials. The choice of the same can be based on ecological, economic reasons or simply by the personal taste of each one. Here we explain the differences in the fabrics that we work at Mosquitohouse so that you can make a more personal choice.

POLYESTER:

It is the most used fabric to make mosquito nets since they are more versatile, economic and light both for their weight and visually since it can be seen through them. In addition, its defined holes allow air to circulate through the fabric so that they have natural ventilation. These characteristics make them perfect to adapt to the bed and not overload the bedroom.

Therefore they are also recommended for outdoor use. In fact, travel mosquito nets are always made of polyester since they weigh less and have less volume. Another advantage of polyester is that it can be machine washed in cold water (see Washing Tips).

To measure the effectiveness of a mosquito net made of polyester, we must consider the mesh that refers to the number of holes per square inch of the fabric. This data indicates the size of the hole and its effectiveness:

The larger the mesh, the smaller the hole; the smaller the mesh, the larger the hole.

MESH 156 HOLES / INCH2 (BASIC RANGE): It is the minimum required by the WHO to ensure efficacy and safety. The hole is somewhat larger but they are still safe. As the hole is larger, the fabric used is less, therefore, they are the lightest and cheapest mosquito nets of all.

BASIC mosquito nets are the best option in places with standard size insects.

MESH 256 HOLES / INCH2 (BASIC RANGE): The hole is somewhat smaller so we gain in security. Each hole measures 2 mm, so that air can circulate but makes it impossible for mosquitoes to enter or exit the mosquito net. The 256 mesh is the perfect compromise between efficiency and ventilation.

STANDARD mosquito nets are the best selling mosquito nets for their variety and safety.

COTTON:

It is a natural and fresh fabric, perfect for summer. It is a material with a higher price, although we believe that it compensates since it is a resistant material, ideal for lovers of natural fabrics and recommended for allergens. They are thicker but also more elegant and pleasant to the touch. Given its weight and volume, it is preferable not to purchase it for travel.

Cotton mosquito nets are perfect for lovers of natural fabrics.

BAMBOO:

Bamboo has some characteristics similar to cotton but, even so, it beats it practically in everything. It's an even cooler fabric, thicker, more elegant, softer, higher priced and yet the most pleasant and sustainable option of all.

Bamboo mosquito nets are the best option for their freshness and sustainability.

Its effectiveness in protecting against mosquitoes is proven and, as far as its decorative component is concerned, bamboo mosquito nets are very elegant and welcoming once installed.

Bamboo is a fast-growing plant, between 5 and 20 cm. up to date. Some species can grow even 90 or 100 cm. every day. When harvested, only the stem is collected, leaving the root intact, so that its rapid growth is favored. It is one of the plants that captures the most CO2 on the planet and does not need water or pesticides for its growth. For this reason, mosquito nets made of bamboo fiber are ecological, biodegradable and sustainable, beating cotton that does require large amounts of water to make fabrics and pesticides to favor its development given the current demand.

Bamboo mosquito nets ventilate very well and are excellent heat regulators so they are cool in summer and warm in winter. They can absorb up to 60% more moisture than cotton so that the fabric stays dry and cooler for longer. Another important feature of bamboo fiber is that its structure is rounder and smoother, offering less resistance and creating softer threads. Thus, the fabric feels much softer to the touch and does not wrinkle.
